About

Who We Are

In the Robert Henderson Language Media Center (RHLMC), we support the use of information technology to enhance language instruction and research. We are dedicated to serving the entire community of language learners, teachers and researchers at the University of Pittsburgh.

We are located on the ground floor of the historic Cathedral of Learning building, in which most modern language departments at the university are located. We are one of the three centers that are hosted by the Department of Linguistics, along with the English Language Institute (ELI) and the Less-Commonly-Taught Languages Center(LCTL).

Who Uses the RHLMC

The RHLMC is open to all members of the language-learning community at and around the University of Pittsburgh. An instructor might decide to schedule her/his class in one of our lab classrooms. ESL (English as a Second Language) students at Pitt as well as independent users who wish to use our computer stations and/or our selection of language-learning materials also visit our center. Faculty conducting language-focused research may also conduct their experiments in our labs.

Services We Provide

Our technology-equipped facilities can be reserved for classroom use and multimedia creation. In addition, we have equipment that can be checked out by faculty, such as video cameras and laptop computers. We also assist in duplication of CD/DVD media, digitization and editing of multimedia contents, and data transfer of video/audio files created as part of classroom or research activity. For teachers and researchers who like to learn about exciting new technologies, we offer a workshop series. Please see this page for the full range of services.
